Love, kindness, patience, curiosity, fun, and joy are distinguishing characteristics of our preschool’s programming. We make play a priority and use it as a means of exploration and learning to teach the standards of the heart as well as the NYS Learning Standards.
Social, emotional, spiritual, academic, as well as fine and gross motor skills are addressed daily in our child-centered environment. Within our nurturing and loving atmosphere, we encourage independence and help each child earn success.
We believe that learning is a home-to-school partnership and personal interaction with our families and caregivers helps to solidify this connection. While we work to prepare your children for the next steps in their education, our greatest objective is that they learn to love school and are excited about their academic future.
Some of our 4 year old and Pre-K programs components include:
- The continued development of independent, critical thinking, problem solving, and self advocacy skills within a safe and loving environment.
- Relational building with staff and among peers by engaging in cooperative activities.
- Growing receptive language and expressive vocabulary through the support of daily large group sessions where read alouds and musical activities are used as learning tools, as well during daily small group interactions when learning is intentional and individualized.
- Visually recognizing first and last names while regularly practicing how to independently write them.
- Learning letters and their sounds with the foundational understanding that they combine to form words.
- Working on pre-math skills through sorting, sequencing, puzzles, and patterning. In addition, we work on shape and number recognition, counting activities, and learning directional terms (ie: up, down, out, etc)
- Working collaboratively with classmates and teachers for big events such as our holiday concert, the graduation ceremony, and our Mother’s/Father’s Day events.
